SyncHR: Next-Gen HCM to Transform Workforce Management

CIO VendorPamela Glick, CEO If you’ve ever used heavy HR or payroll software and wondered to yourself, “there’s got to be a better way to do this”, you’re not alone. In fact, it’s the cornerstone of SyncHR’s mission to bring innovation and modern technology to Human Capital Management (HCM).

For many years now, the HR space has been beset with manual processes and disconnected systems that are prone to error along with time-consuming data management. While sales, marketing and finance departments have seen dramatic improvements in analytics and automation, HR has seen little to no real innovation. HCM was supposed to help organizations streamline and automate their record-keeping processes and manage benefits administration and payroll in one centralized solution, leaving executives with more time to focus on vital HR-related issues.

Unfortunately, the promise of HCM hasn’t matched reality. “Most of today’s so-called HCM solutions are nothing more than a bunch of first-gen systems mashed together and repackaged as a so-called ‘unified’ platform,” explains Pam Glick, SyncHR’s CEO. “But anyone who uses these systems on a daily basis knows that they simply don’t work, the data is always off and you’re constantly doing manual workarounds. The HCM space is long overdue for real innovation, and that’s exactly what SyncHR brings to the table.”

Founded in 2010, SyncHR has been working to bring next-gen technology to HCM with a particular focus on mid-sized companies who have outgrown simple software but don’t need the heavy, multi-million dollar solutions.

SyncHR fills the gap, delivering enterprise-grade capabilities without the added complexity or cost. This helps fast-growing companies streamline their HR, benefits, and payroll management. Despite its focus on mid-sized companies, large enterprise looking to be more data driven and automated have taken notice. SyncHR has tripled its sales to large enterprise customers in the last year.

Much of the appeal of SyncHR’s solution revolves around the company’s radically different core. Whereas most vendors build HR, payroll and benefit systems separately and connect them, SyncHR built these capabilities in a single core. This helps saves time and reduces expense by making centralized, interrelated data easy to access, correct, and analyze through one intuitive system. “We like to think that SyncHR is doing for HCM what Tesla did for the auto industry,” notes Pam. “We’re helping businesses realize value and benefits that they didn’t think were even possible before finding SyncHR.”

The SyncHR solution has quickly become the coveted HCM solution for forward-thinking HR organizations within companies across industries.
Time Machine Technology™ Improves Entire Employee Lifecycle

The secret behind the company’s accession to success lies with the concoction of event-driven core HR, benefits, payroll, workforce management, reporting and analytics capabilities, and more. The advantages of using SyncHR’s robust application manifest as it increases employee engagement, and improves people management through precision control and flexible reporting. All this is achieved through a centralized core system of record and what SyncHR describes as its Time Machine Technology™. The centralized core and built-in Time Machine Technology allows the system to operate much like a DVR. Users can go back in time to review HR data or run retro-paychecks. Anything that’s changed is automatically updated and synchronized.

SyncHR provides a modern, enterprise-worthy HCM platform without all the unnecessary complexity or cost

In addition, with SyncHR’s modern and intuitive interface, onboarding of new employees becomes effortless and less time-consuming as the platform is smart enough to intuitively guide the employees through the new hire process. Taking the platform to another level is its ability to adapt to movement of people in, out, and around the organization, eliminating administrative efforts as security and workflows are automatically adjusted.

Most HCM platforms promise to bring remarkable capabilities for workforce management, but often fall well short of providing the analytics and insight across every department of an organization. This is another area where SyncHR stands out. SyncHR’s platform is architected with its own self balancing sub-ledger and the ability to easily allocate labor costs across a variety of dimensions, providing unparalleled insight into what’s happening in your organization.

SyncHR’s solution is a success among IT departments as well, as it does not require heavy or ongoing support from IT. A web browser and internet access are all that’s required, making it fast and easy to implement and maintain. Modern APIs and an enterprise integrations service structure also allow SyncHR to easily share core system of record data with other strategic systems outside of HCM.

Another area where SyncHR excels is its real-time analytics and reporting capabilities. Like some HCM platforms, SyncHR has an intuitive, easy to use, drag and drop reporting tool; however, the difference lies in the quality and dimensions of the data and the ability report based on past, present and future. The solution comes with additional capabilities like learning management, performance management, and compensation management.

Making Payroll Processing Exponentially More Efficient

With a platform so robust, SyncHR has successfully gained traction across industries ranging from healthcare, financial services, property management, retail, manufacturing and distribution, to professional services and life sciences.
In one instance, SyncHR has helped a customer from the property management market save a significant amount of time and effort. The client’s payroll processing was taking up as many as three days. With SyncHR’s accurate and sophisticated technology, the customer was able to cut the processing time to half a day by eliminating manual processes and adapting to complete automation. In a similar case, SyncHR was able to bring about a 50 percent reduction in the time spent processing payroll semi-monthly. The advantages expanded to saving 30 minutes per month with summary payroll journal that exported data from SyncHR into NetSuite the customer’s general ledger, which in turn resulted in more accurate allocations of labor costs.

The company’s success in getting their customers up and running on their platform very quickly is owed to their very iterative and agile design and implementation process. The typical implementation timeline for a 1,000+ employee company is 90 days. To achieve this, SyncHR loads the system with a subset of the client’s data within 2 to 3 weeks of project kick-off so that they can immediately begin developing familiarity with how the system works. “We’ll start training and showing them how to use the capabilities of the system as we are defining and finalizing their requirements. We typically go through 3 to 4 iterations before we finalize the requirements, and move into end-to-end testing. This proves to be very effective in helping them optimize the use of the system toward achieving their business objectives as well as preparing them to operate and maintain the system once they go live,” states Pamela.

"The HCM space is long overdue for real innovation, and that’s exactly what SyncHR brings to the table"

Another factor that differentiates SyncHR from its competitors is that the company has a mandatory change management component for all their implementations. Organizational change management (OCM) is one of the most overlooked success factors of an HCM software implementation. However, it is of critical importance since when a customer moves from one system to another, the processes change and the organization needs to be prepared for that change in order to maximize the benefits of the new system. SyncHR’s implementations include development of a strategy around change management, including a formal change management assessment and the development of an overall plan and timeline around training of all applicable end users.

SyncHR also has designated customer success managers who own the customer’s overall experience with SyncHR and ensure that the customers are making optimized use of their platform. “Since we deliver major application enhancements every 5 to 6 months, these managers help our clients not only to monitor and manage the platform but also to leverage the new capabilities,” says Pamela.

Remodelling HR Space

SyncHR is investing across the board, in the products as well as customer care organization. The company is also working on increasing some of the talent components of the application as well as enhancing analytics. With SyncHR growing rapidly, almost doubling the size of their business year after year, Pamela plans to continue creating innovative payroll and HR technologies to revolutionize the HCM industry and deliver value and long-lasting relationship with its customers and partners.
